REGARDING REGULATIONS OF MARINE RESOURCES

· No person may angle in South Africa without a permit. Permits can be obtained from the various bodies (Parks Boards) governing the areas.

· No person may catch or disturb invertebrate animals in protected areas. These areas will be pointed out when obtaining permits.

· Permits for various marine life differ in price. There are also various limitations on the amounts that persons can catch with the permits.

REGARDING CLOSED SEASONS

· ELF/SHAD

1 September to 30 November, both dates inclusive

· GALJOEN

15 October to last day of February the following year, both dates inclusive

· CHOKKA

25 October to 22 November, both dates inclusive

WHEN BOATFARING ANYWHERE IN OUR FAIR COUNTRY......

Remember to take with::

· an efficient and approved life-jacket for each person on board. · sufficient oars to land the boat (or vessel) your traversing in · a pump or other bailer, unless the vessel is designed to not need it · an anchor · a siren or whistle, to prevent collisions · a fire extinguisher · a white light, visible from 200 m in all directions, if planning to be out between sunset and sunrise.
