WALKS AND PICNIC SPOTS

In and around KNYSNA - Cape, Gardenroute, South Africa.

When to do what?

Knysna offers many exciting walks and picnic spots that are sightseeing orientated. These activities are not limited to the family but are for all fun-seeking people who want to be outdoors.

There’s a lot of history entrenched in Knysna. The Old Goldmine at Millwood, tells of a time when the destruction of the Knysna forest started in earnest.

Because the mine did not yield so much gold, the miners started killing elephants en masse. They sold the ivory and left the carcasses to rot in the forest. They also started felling indigenous trees to supplement their income.

That is apart from Shipbuilders ransacking the forest which once stretched from the now "Garden of Eden" down to Goukamma. It was indigenous forest. They stopped when the goldrush started in a then small "Place of Gold"-big old Johannesburg.

The map at the bottom will show routes to picnic sites and several walks. The longest route is 9 km’s long and all these walks will take you through breathtaking scenery.
