Situated only 90km from Durban - a well known
stretch - as thousands of athletes complete the Comrades' Marathon every
year ../run since 1921.
The Voortrekkers had a good eye for town sites.
Pietermaritzburg named after Two Voortrekker leaders : Piet Retief &
Gerit Maritz. Found in 1838 and developed by the Voortrekkers, gives the
city today that old historical and traditional feeling.
The city lies in a very fertile hollow at the
foot of a tree-covered escarpment where the midlands of Natal rise 400
metres above the surrounding landscape.
