Plett hiking and walks
SHORT WALKS

There are several walks centering around the Tzitzikama Forest Inn near Plett. For those just up for the odd ramble through the forest, there is the Big Tree Trail.

It's an easy 15 minute walk through cool indigenous forest. The start is the car park just off the N2, 3 km from the Storms River Bridge.

When in the area, visit the Storms River Mouth. It offers swimming and picnic spots. Visitors will be charged a moderate entrance fee. The area is currently under the management of the Tzitzikama Coastal National Park.

A walk starting at the River Mouth is the Loerie Trail. It is a stiff climb from sea level to plateau. This trail is 1 km long and can be very wet during the rainy season.

An one hour walk through the forest, past a fallen yellowwood, is the Fern Tree Trail. This route starts and ends at the Storms River Bridge

A good spot to go for a picnic is the Gorge near the Bloukrans Bridge. The bridge is a spectacular viewpoint and there are conveniences such as coin-operated braai areas.

After spending a lovely day walking in the Tzizikama Forest make a turn at the Wittedrift Hiking Trail.

The land is privately owned and the trail was made passable by willing school children. The trail can be covered in 2 to 8 hours and horses and dogs are allowed as well. This trail landmarks the Wittedrift High School's Hostel. It starts and ends at the Hostel.
