| This was our first visit to South Africa and during our
stay we travelled 'widely and extensively' throughout your fabulous Country.
We were able to form a (reasonably) balanced view of modern day South Africa
- the people, the sights and the sounds.
One of the many, many highlights of our three week holiday, was our stay in Knysna, where we were lucky enough to pick 'Point Lodge' - from the Net - as our base for touring the area. Situated right on the shore of the Lagoon, without getting wet, you really cannot get closer to the water than this. The view towards the 'Heads' is magnificent, and the bird life within the immediate vicinity quite remarkable. Ryk and Amanda were excellent hosts, approachable, helpful and very friendly with a good sense of humour. They have a wealth of 'local knowledge' regarding restaurants, pubs - they will do their level best to book you a table at your chosen venue - and 'things to see', which they are more than prepared to share with their 'guests'. 'Guest' is probably the wrong choice of word, since it is very much 'open house', laid back and relaxed, and you are treated 'as one of the family', since 'Point Lodge' is built on 'trust' which is refreshing to see. The room was very comfortable- large and spacious with a balcony - there was plenty of hot water, a bar with a decent selection of drinks on hand, and the garden a great place to sit and 'be quiet' with a book. Knysna is about a two minute drive away, so 'Point Lodge' is very accessible for all the amenities on offer nearby. Ryk had just become 'mine host' at 'Fiddlers Corner' just prior to our arrival. I am sure he is an excellent Landlord! He also makes a mean 'fry up' for breakfast too! My wife, Barbara, and me, have 'no hesitation at all' in thoroughly recommending 'Point Lodge' as a 'base' for your visit to this lovely (loveliest??) part of the Garden Route, and if you would like any additional information 'from the horse's mouth' as it were, I will be more than happy to pass on my comments to you directly. Wherever you are travelling from around the World, I assure you that you will receive a very warm welcome from Ryk and Amanda. And, like General McArthur........'I will return..'.
